What is PLA Filament?

PLA (Polylactic Acid) is a thermoplastic polymer made from renewable resources such as corn starch, sugarcane, or other starch-rich crops. It is commonly used as a 3D printing filament for a variety of reasons, including:

  • It's really easy to use
  • Low warping
  • Environmentally friendly - much more biodegradable when compared to other petroleum-based plastics

Could I possibly get this in a two or three kilogram roll?

I used this filament and it came out gray, almost as if it were burnt. the only part that wasn't was the bottom where it was resting against the cool metal of the print bed (also the only area that glows). Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I have a Printrbot Simple Pro and the settings are set for PLA at a print temp of 205.
