HOW DOES THE FORMLABS FUSE BLAST POLISHING SYSTEM WORK?
The Formlabs Fuse Blast Polishing System finishes SLS parts by combining cleaning and smoothing in a single step through impact polishing. Standard glass-blasting results in a rough, matte surface while this system uses a Polishing Module to dose and aerosolize a Polishing Agent solution into the blast stream. This process conditions the Polishing Media, which then compacts the part surface. The result is a smooth, semi-gloss finish achieved without material removal, akin to shot peening.
For optimal results, a minimum blasting pressure of 60 PSI is recommended. To accommodate this increased airflow requirement, the system features an innovative Adaptive Airflow function which allows lower-capacity compressors to keep up by automatically pausing the cycle while the compressor recharges. As a result, users experience a seamless, hands-off process for cleaning and polishing their SLS parts, ensuring a consistent and high-quality finish without interruption.
HOW DO I INSTALL THE POLISHING SYSTEM?
- Remove the panel on the Fuse Blast.
- When facing the front of the machine, it's located on the right side, below the touch screen.
- Install the Polishing Module into the cavity.
- Install the special water nozzle on the blast gun to inject water into the blast stream.
- Install the 3mm orifice in the Blast Nozzle.
- Add water and polishing agent into water tank.
- 7mL of Polishing agent + 750mL of tap water
- Plug the module: water line (quick connect) and power line (5 pin connector).
- If there's already Glass media in the hopper, empty it and exchange it for Blast Polishing Media.
