FAQ

Why is the secondary water wash needed, what happens if this step is skipped?

Because Formlabs Resin Washing Solution is nonflammable, it does not air dry. The secondary water wash is needed to remove the washing solution from the surface of the part, ensuring parts are dried in a timely fashion.

If this step is skipped, parts will have poor surface finish and dimensional accuracy after
post-curing.

Does type of water matter (ex: tap water, deionized water, etc)?

No; any type of water should be sufficient to rinse Formlabs Resin Washing Solution.

Does the type of container for the secondary water wash matter?

No. Users can use a Form Wash, Finish Kit, or other closed-top container that can hold sufficient volume to submerge the part(s).

Can I rinse Formlabs Resin Washing Solution in the sink?

No. While tap water is acceptable to use, the tap water must be placed in a container (ex: Form 4 Finish Kit) to ensure that waste does not enter the septic system.

Is there a difference between using water and IPA for the second stage?

Both water and IPA are effective to remove Formlabs Resin Washing Solution from the surface of parts. Using IPA as the second stage can help parts air dry faster than with water.

What does GHS Non-Flammable mean?

GHS (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals) is an internationally recognized standard developed by the United Nations as a way to bring into agreement the chemical regulations and standards of different countries. The GHS system defines a flammable liquid as a liquid with a flash point below 93℃.

What if I want to use Formlabs Resin Washing Solution with my Form Wash (1st Generation) machine?

Formlabs Resin Washing Solution is validated for Form Wash (2nd Generation) and Form Wash L. If used with the Form Wash (First Generation), Formlabs can no longer guarantee the washing efficacy of parts cleaned using Formlabs Resin Washing Solution. Form Wash (2nd Generation) offers nearly 3 times as much agitation as the previous generation.

Does Formlabs Resin Washing Solution affect the mechanical properties of printed parts compared to IPA and TPM?

No. For compatible Formlabs resins, mechanical properties are not statistically significantly different compared to parts printed in IPA.

Can I pour Formlabs Resin Washing Solution down the drain?

No, neither the washing solution nor the secondary water rinse can be poured down the drain or enter the septic system.

Why is Formlabs Resin Washing Solution incompatible with certain resins?

Formlabs Resin Washing Solution is not recommended for resins that require a validated workflow (ex: biocompatible resins, Flame Retardant Resin). Additional testing is required for Formlabs to recommend these resins

Can I use Formlabs Resin Washing Solution to wash biocompatible resins?

Formlabs Resin Washing Solution is not recommended for workflows that require a validated workflow, including biocompatible materials.

Users using Formlabs Resin Washing Solution to wash biocompatible resins must understand that until/if Formlabs completes this testing, Formlabs can no longer guarantee the biocompatibility of the material. Users are encouraged to do their own testing to affirm the material is safe for their application.

Please take note if users are interested in using Resin Washing Solution to wash biocompatible
resins and pass along this feedback to the Product Feedback Form.

What can we disclose to a customer about the composition of the washing solution if they ask?

Formlabs Resin Washing Solution is a proprietary solution; please refer to the SDS for information regarding material composition and handling.

What is the correct way to dispose of Formlabs Resin Washing Solution? What is the correct way to dispose of the secondary water wash?

Users should consult the SDS and research their local regulations for waste disposal.

Can Formlabs Resin Washing Solution be recycled like IPA?

At this time Formlabs cannot provide any recommendations or assurances that it can be recycled. If this changes, it will be reflected in this FAQ section.
