WHAT IS A REFRESH RATE?

  • In the context of Sinterit products, refresh rate is the ratio of the minimum amount of fresh powder needed in a mixture of material used in an SLS 3D printer. The lower the refresh ratio, the better the cost-efficiency of the material.

HOW DO I REUSE USED PA11 ESD POWDER?

  • Reuse leftover PA11 ESD powder on your next print by adding 60% of PA11 ESD Fresh Powder. By mixing 40% used PA11 ESD with 60% PA11 ESD Fresh, you will create a cost-effective, 100% print-ready PA11 ESD powder.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN “Fresh” POWDER AND “Starter” POWDER?

  • Powder Type Condition Description
    Starter Print-Ready Powder that's ready to print. (i.e. no need to mix used and fresh
    powder, it's ready to be poured into the machine and start printing)
    Fresh Fresh Powder that's for refreshing the powder. Mixing this with Used Powder
    will turn it into Print-Ready.
    Used Powder leftover from printing, present in overflow bin or remaining
    after printout cleaning.

WHEN DO I NEED "Starter" (AKA "Print-Ready") POWDER?

  • Print-Ready powder is intended to be used only for the first print in a new Sinterit SLS 3D printer. After that first print, you'll refresh the used powder with "Fresh" Powder each time you print. You'll only need additional Print Ready powder if you're starting an entirely new print using ONLY "Starter" powder. Note that not all types of materials have "Starter" versions because not all types of materials require it.

CAN I USE "Fresh" POWDER INSTEAD OF "Starter" POWDER TO START PRINTING?

  • We recommend starting your first print with a "Starter" powder if a version is available. If there is no "Starter" version available for a particular material, that means you can start with "Fresh" powder for printing.
    • Printing with purely "Fresh" instead of "Starter" powder (if available) is not economically optimal, but yes, it's technically possible.

HOW DO I MIX "Used" and "Fresh" POWDER?

  • Powder Handling Stations or a Powder Sieve can help mix used and fresh powders.
    • The amount of needed fresh powder is automatically calculated by the software and shown on the printer screen after the print job is finished. Just add shown amount of material into the mixing cycle of used material and you can start your next job with refreshed material.

HOW SHOULD I STORE THE PRINTING POWDER?

  • Store the powder at room conditions ( ~23°C and 50% humidity – the lower humidity the better)
  • Always store the material in a sealed dry box/container.
  • Do not leave the container open.
  • Clean the machine directly after printing and store the material immediately after removing the print cake.
  • Do not let the powder stay in the printer for more than a couple hours.
  • Put a few silicone absorbers in the container (but don’t add them to the printer)

DO I NEED AN ATEX VACUUM CLEANER TO CLEAN POWDER?

  • Yes. SLS polyamide powder used for 3D printing is considered particulate matter because of its size. Polyamide powder particles are generally 40 micrometers or smaller. If vacuumed in an ordinary vacuum cleaner, the powder could cause an explosion.

    Such materials are subject to labor regulations on air quality and occupational safety. The procedures call for appropriate maintenance of powder at work. Only certified industrial vacuum cleaners should be used to clean such materials.
