The Virtual Foundry The Virtual Foundry FilaWarmer
The FilaWarmer was designed to aid the printing process of Filamet and is necessary to successfully print with these materials. Filamet is anywhere from 65% to 90% metal by mass, this high metal content results in a filament that is very brittle and prone to retaining the memory of the circular shape of the spool. As Filamet passes through the warmer, the memory of the Filamet is reset, resulting in filament that is more pliable and flexible.
Top FilaWarmer Features:
• Preprogrammed to operate at 60°C
• Compatible with all Virtual Foundry Filamet
• Pairs perfectly with the Virtual Foundry Spool Holder and Hub

THE VIRTUAL FOUNDRY FILAWARMER
ACHIEVE CONSISTENT, QUALITY RESULTS WHEN PRINTING WITH THE VIRTUAL FOUNDRY FILAMET
The FilaWarmer was designed to aid the printing process of Filamet and is necessary to successfully print with these materials. Filamet is anywhere from 65% to 90% metal by mass, this high metal content results in a filament that is very brittle and prone to retaining the memory of the circular shape of the spool. Here are the key features of the Virtual Foundry FilaWarmer:
- Preprogramed to operate at 60°C
- Compatible with all Virtual Foundry Filamet
- Pairs perfectly with the Virtual Foundry Spool Holder and Hub
- FilaWarmer effects will last for roughly 24-hours
NOTE: Caution! Heating the entire spool at once will cause the filament to become extremely brittle. It’s important to heat only the single strand as it goes into the printer.
SETTING UP YOUR FILAWARMER
The FilaWarmer warms, strengthens, relaxes, and anneals the filament as it comes off the spool. It comes pre-programmed to the perfect temperature.
Hang the Filawarmer so that the top of the warming tube is at the same level as the spool center hole.
WHICH FILAMET FILAMENTS ARE COMPATIBLE WITH THE FILAWARMER?

- High Carbon Iron
- Tungsten
- Pyrex (Borosilicate)
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY FILAMENT IS BREAKING WHEN IT ENTERS THE FEEDER?
There are a few reasons this may happen.
- Your feeder has too much tension on it. Loosening the grip of the feeder may solve this issue.
- If it only happens during travel, try a lower travel speed. Fast movements can result in broken filament.
- If it’s happening during regular printing, try changing your speed to 30mm/sec. You may have been going too fast or too slow.
- Try moving the Filawarmer and spool closer to the feeder. For direct drive printers, be careful not to get too close or sharp angles as the print head moves across the print will result in broken filament.
