NAVAIR Tier 1 Additive Manufacturing System Contract
MatterHackers was recently competitively awarded a five-year IDIQ contract (up to $5M) to deliver fully-deployable additive manufacturing systems (AMS) to US Navy and Marine bases across the United States and overseas. The solution includes Ultimaker S5 3D printers, industrial-grade filament, supplemental IT and support, maintenance strategy, and on-the-ground training facilitated by longtime MatterHackers partner, Building Momentum. This is the largest military contract ever awarded for desktop 3D printers and demonstrates the Navy’s commitment to the widespread adoption of additive manufacturing.
San Diego College of Continuing Education Fiber Tech Lab
When San Diego Community College District was in the planning stages to open their groundbreaking FTL (Fiber Tech Lab) they chose MatterHackers as their partner for digital manufacturing equipment, materials, training, and support. The FTL (A Clothing And Textile Arts Fiber Tech Lab) fuses digital technologies and equipment into entrepreneurship and workforce development for the cut and sew industry. MatterHackers made recommendations including multiple brands of 3D printers, dozens of filament varieties, a compact and clean CNC machine, laser engraver, and more to set their space up for successful projects and creative exploration. MatterHackers facilitated a two-day training to engage their core users and will continue to support their programs with supplemental training, as well as on-site service and repair.

L3Harris, a leading global aerospace and defense technology company, was looking for a way to save time and money on their custom metal tooling. They partnered with MatterHackers to use BASF Ultrafuse 316L filament on their in-house 3D printers. Their 3D printed parts are processed using MatterHackers’ remote debinding and sintering solution. Those metal parts are later finished to their specified tolerances with traditional milling methods. Overall, L3Harris identified thousands of dollars saved over purely machining the parts, and has saved time and effort over bringing the entire additive process for metal in-house. They have found the process of working with MatterHackers to be repeatable, reliable, and scalable to the changing needs of their business.
