BCN3D printers are known for being industrial powerhouses. With their two independent extruders, the IDEX systems allow for manufacturers to create finished products out of multiple materials or with helpful dissolvable support structures. To aid in the functionality of both the Epsilon series BCN3D printers and the various materials they use, BCN3D unveiled the Smart Cabinet: a fully featured 3D printer workstation packed full of features to compliment the robust Epsilon W27 and W50.

Let's break it down-

Dehumidifier Chamber

A major factor for engineering grade filaments is their tendency to absorb water; filaments like nylon and its derivatives, flexible filaments, support filaments, and even the relatively normal filament PETG are all susceptible to absorbing water from the air and seriously diminishing their printing properties, as well as finished properties. The main draw of the BCN3D Smart Cabinet is its Dehumidifier Chamber, an integrated apparatus specifically designed to pull the moisture out of the air surrounding your filament and prevent your filament from getting wet in the first place. The process works by using alumina to absorb the moisture in the air-tight chamber, decreasing the relative humidity of the drawer. A second cycle begins and the alumina is dried out, vents the moisture to the outside air, and restarts the first cycle, gradually removing moisture from the chamber. At one time the Dehumidifier Chamber can fit 4 large spools, 10 small spools, or 6 of BCN3Ds filament cartridges for easy filament loading. Keep in mind that while moisture is removed from the air, it won’t be removed from your filament, so make sure it’s already dry before dropping them in, and remember that every time you open the chamber, you are refreshing the dry air with “moist” air, so open it as sparingly as possible.

Filament and Tool Storage

While the Dehumidifier Chamber is quite spacious, you will likely still have plenty of filament you will want to keep stored close by. Pop open the bottom cabinet for plenty of space to keep your extra filament, boxed and otherwise, tidy and out of the way, along with any spare build plates you may have. All of the tools that come included with your BCN3D Epsilon W27 or W50 can be neatly stowed right in the pull-out drawer in the side of the Smart Cabinet and accessed when they’re needed. Or you can use this space as a handy laptop or tablet stand so you can keep your computer with BCN3D Stratos installed right beside your machine for quick access.

Uninterruptible Power Supply

It’s something that would fill any worker with dread: a power outage. Where other mediums have the luxury of autosaves, most 3D printers won’t have much luck continuing where they left off when power returns. That’s not the case with the BCN3D Smart Cabinet. Thanks to its Online Uninterruptible Power Supply, your 3D prints are protected not just from power outages, but from fluctuations as well. In the event of a blackout, the connected BCN3D printer will pause, move the printheads clear of the printed part, and park off to the side awaiting a return of power. There is enough power stored in the system to hold in this state for up to 10 minutes, any longer and the machine will power down, but remember its last position to resume printing when power is back online.

Having a dedicated tool cabinet, filament storage, and humidity control system in one convenient, mobile package will be a huge boost in productivity for your BCN3D printers. Hopefully you have a much better understanding of what makes this more than a 3D printer cart and have the information that you need to purchase one for your BCN3D printer.
